Brief impression PQ plan
Carly Everaert allows the public to roam the city streets on the basis of method inspired by the Situationists. You follow someone through the city because of what they are wearing, for example a red skirt. You continue to follow the person in question until you encounter someone else wearing a red skirt. You stop after having switched subjects 7 times. At this point you listen to the description of a scene via a headset and observe the people in the street as if they were characters referred to in the audio text.
Biography
Carly Everaert has been a freelance costume designer since 1986. She has worked with Theatergroep Carver and Carrousel for 20 years under the direction of Matin van Veldhuizen. During the mid nineties, she created the costumes for numerous family productions staged by the Rotheater including, Hondje, Kleine Sofie and Lange Wapper. She designed various stage sets for the Onafhankelijk Toneel under the direction of Mirjam Koen and also several operas, including Samson in coproduction with the Nederlandse Opera. Carly began her career with Rieks Swarte with whom she still works on a regular basis. In 2011, she was awarded the Wijnberg Scenografieprijs together with her artistic team, for the design of Liesbeth Colthof’s De Storm. For her designs for Mehmet de Veroveraar and Pinokkio, both also directed by Liesbeth Colthof, she was awarded the Zilveren Krekel in 2013 for best podium presentation. Carly teaches at the Scenography Faculty of the Theaterschool in Amsterdam. Her work has been selected for an international exhibition at the Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum in Moscow from June 15 through August 1.

Avoiding the ‘convoy of ants’
Détournement involves taking an image or message out of its original context. In a different context it acquires a new meaning that gives us a fresh insight into real life.
Choose an inhabitant of Prague, for example someone wearing a red coat. Follow him or her through the city till you encounter someone else wearing a red coat. Do this seven times. Record the route you have taken on a map or app of Prague. Stop after you have followed your seventh subject. Find a good place to sit down. Take a photo of the location, i.e. café, bench, park or bus stop. Observe the people around you closely and imagine that at that moment you receive a letter from one of them. (MP3) This letter is from the website, ‘letters of note’ which has already been accessed by 70 million people. The letter will be read to you on the MP3. ‘Costume’ dictates your route through the city and final destination. The idea is closely related to activities undertaken by the Situationists during the 1960s to expose the commercialization of art. It’s called détournement and here it seeks to avoid the commercialization of Prague and allow you to experience the city in a totally different way.

Carly Everaert laat het publiek door de stad zwerven aan de hand van een op de Situationisten geïnspireerde methode. Men volgt een ander door de stad op basis van een kledingstuk, bijvoorbeeld een rood rokje, net zolang totdat men iemand anders met een rood rokje tegenkomt. Na 7 keer wisselen is een voorlopig eindpunt bereikt. Op dit punt luistert men via een koptelefoon naar een scène en kijkt men naar de mensen in de straat alsof het de personages uit de tekst zijn.
Biografie
Carly Everaert is sinds 1986 freelance kostuumontwerper. Zij heeft 20 jaar gewerkt met Theatergroep Carver en met Carrousel in de regies van Matin van Veldhuizen. Halverwege de jaren ’90 heeft zij voor meerdere familievoorstellingen van het Rotheater de kostuums ontworpen waaronder Hondje, Kleine Sofie en Lange Wapper. Bij het Onafhankelijk Toneel heeft Carly voor veel theatervoorstellingen in de regie van Mirjam Koen en een aantal opera’s het ontwerp gedaan, waaronder Samson in coproductie met de Nederlandse Opera. Zij begon haar loopbaan bij Rieks Swarte en werkt nog steeds regelmatig met hem samen.
Voor haar ontwerp van De Storm in de regie van Liesbeth Coltof ontving zij in 2011 samen met het gehele artistieke team de Wijnberg scenografieprijs. In 2013 ontving zij voor de ontwerpen van Mehmet de Veroveraar en Pinokkio, beiden wederom in de regie van Liesbeth Coltof, de Zilveren Krekel voor beste podiumpresentatie. Carly geeft les aan de Theaterschool Amsterdam, afdeling scenografie. Haar werk is uitgekozen voor een internationale tentoonstelling in het Bakhrushin State Central Theatre Museum, dat van 15 juni tot 1 augustus in Moskou plaats heeft.
Werkwijze
Het ‘mierenpad’ ontlopen.
Detournement behelst het uit de context lichten van een beeld of boodschap om in een nieuwe betekenis meer van het echte leven te zien te krijgen.
Kies een bewoner van Praag uit in bijvoorbeeld een rode jas. Volg die door de stad tot je een andere bewoner tegenkomt in een rode jas en ga die volgen tot je weer iemand anders tegenkomt in een rode jas. Dit doe je zeven keer. Leg je route vast op een kaart of app van Praag. Bij de zevende halte stop je. Je zoekt een goede plek om te gaan zitten. Maak een foto van de plek, van een café, bankje, park of bushalte. Kijk goed naar de mensen en bedenk dat je van een van deze mensen op dat moment een brief ontvangt. (MP 3) Deze brief is van de website letters of note, die tot nu toe 70 miljoen bezoekers heeft ontvangen. Deze brief krijg je voorgelezen op een MP3. ‘Kostuum’ bepaalt hier de route en het eindpunt van je reis door de stad. Het idee ligt dichtbij wat de Situationisten in de jaren zestig deden om de vercommercialisering van de kunst aan de kaak te stellen. Het heet détournement en is hier bedoeld om de vercommercialisering van de stad Praag te ontlopen en de stad op een heel andere manier te mogen ervaren.
